Education is the birth right of every human being. No matter the color, caste, gender or race. And when it comes to education, expenses sometimes become huddle in the way. In order to terminate this problem, many institutions have introduced different types of financial aids. Such as scholarships, etc. Now the point is that, is it enough? Or should it be totally free?

I personally think that tuition should be totally free. But only for the deserving. For instance the education system of India is very partial. All the facilities are divided on the basis of caste. 80% of the financial aids are for the scheduled caste students. Even most of the job opportunities are for them. I studied for a year in India. I used to pay 80,000 rupees (approx. 1600 CAD). Whereas scheduled caste students payed just 2000 rupees (approx. 40 CAD). I used to pay almost forty times than them.

Secondly financial aid should be for extremely intelligent students. The students who want to achieve something in life and are working really hard for that. It happens a lot that when something is given for free. It is not valued. But there are a lot of students who need these kind of opportunities and they can definitely take a lot from it.

Lastly the student debts will no longer be a burden for lower income students. As they will not have to pay excessive amounts of fees for studies. They will have a better learning environment. A lot lower stress levels and they can easily focus on their goals in life.

Writing has never been an easy task for me. It constitutes of a lot of skills, knowledge and even experience. The process of writing is similar to the formation of a diamond. More and more you polish the coal, brighter and brighter it gets. And when it comes to profile writing, even more effort is required. As it requires more of writer’s experience than the skills.

While writing the profile writing I would try to write from my experience. By that, I would not have to think again and again. As all the stuff keeps coming into my mind. Moreover, it would feel more realistic to read. When I wrote my first draft, it was a very unpolished draft. It comprised of a lot of grammatical errors, mis-spelling, wrong tense formation, unvaried syntax, and limited vocabulary. By some time, I made great progress and managed to produce a satisfactory draft is produced.

While writing a profile, a new challenge is to go out in the field and interview someone. This was a great challenge for me. However, I got plenty of motivation from my peers. And the result was a spectacular interview. While writing draft one and draft two of profile writing I have earned a great value of experience. And came to know that profile writing is completely different from simple writing. It requires a special focus to achieve reader’s attention. It is a lot harder than it appears to be.

I believe that writing must be done from the heart. This means that it should not just include ideas, thoughts, and quotes. However, it should come from the writer’s experience. Speaking about my greatest area of strength in writing, I always try to relate the topic with my life. At all times I try to write from my experience. That is why I do not have to think again and again. And all the stuff keeps coming into my mind. It also takes less time to write and makes it more pleasing to read.

This is probably because people love to read about someone’s life experiences and their struggle to achieve something. Speaking of my strategy that makes it easier is to write is what I call “Once is not enough”. It plays an important role in my writing skills. Whenever I start writing my first draft, I usually produce an unpolished draft. It just includes the ideas and thoughts that are meant to be included in the draft. My first draft is not even a paragraph, it is just a list of sentences and phrases. In the second step of writing, I use to delete, retype and replace a lot of sentences and phrases. Until a satisfactory draft is produced. At last, I acutely go through my second draft and try to enhance it just like an artist gives final touches to his piece of art until a graceful draft is achieved.

While writing my profile assignment, I had to face a new challenge. That was to go out in the field and interview someone. This was some kind of stuff that I had never done before. I got some motivation from my friend and the moment I started to interview that particular person. All that fear vanished automatically. And the result was a successful interview.

I believe that writing is the inappropriate congregation of the ideas, thoughts, quotes on a white sheet of paper. Whereas, rewriting is evaluating and refining it. rewriting includes deletion, addition, and modification of all that stuff. In the article, “True writing is Rewriting” by Beth Shope, he mentioned that it’s nothing written, it’s rewritten. This is probably because the second draft is always more sophisticated and elegant than the first one. Whenever I try to write my first draft, I usually produce an unpolished draft. That had an unvaried syntax and limited vocabulary. While rewriting it, I used to delete, retype and replace a lot of sentences and phrases until a pleasing draft is produced.

After reading all three imperative secrets for better writing from the article “True writing is Rewriting”. I like “Once is not enough” secret the most. I like this secret the most because it plays an important role in my writing skills. I never write the whole draft at once. The first step that I make is that I write all the words, phrases and quotes on a piece of paper that is related to the topic. Secondly, I create an outline of the draft in my mind. Such as the number of paragraphs, what information to include in which paragraph. In the third step, I combine all those ideas and the outline into a single passage which is my first draft. At last, I acutely go through my first draft and enhance it until a graceful draft is achieved.

Brian Cable’s “The Last Stop” (Intense and Comprehensive)

The profile written by Brian Cable (The Last Stop) is a great masterpiece that perfectly defines different perspectives of people who are bypassing a mortuary on daily basis and also the significance of a typical mortuary in the up-to-the-minute society. The profile is a great blend of ideas, thoughts, and values that describe a mortuary to a great extent. The title in itself is a self-explanatory title that well defines the topic. The writer also made great use of poetic devices. For example, the use of metaphor in “It looked a bit like a church- tall, with gothic arches” is used to relate mortuary to a church. Similarly, the use of personification in “Come in, said the sign” made the passage more realistic. Likewise, “we’re always open” made it more mesmerizing.

It is a very well-built profile of the mortuary that the reader can visualize the place without any effort and even without visiting that particular place. The profile engages the reader superbly that the reader wants to know more and more about the place. Beginning from the “windows stamped out of red brick” past the “lush green lawns and meticulously groomed gardens” toward “the stone steps to the entrance” makes the reader feel like he’s walking through that place.

In this article, Jory Mackay discusses the significance of nonverbal communication in an interview along with the verbal communication. Basically, nonverbal communication includes gesture, eye contact, tone of voice and body language. A survey conducted by a group of students in India stated that approximately 60 percent of our daily communication depends upon nonverbal communication. For instance, deaf people communicate through the American Sign Language that completely depends upon hand gestures and facial expressions.

In this passage Jory Mackay discussed the two P’s that are persistence and preparation. Persistence means that the final goal of the interview must be clear, and all the question must be linked to that goal. Preparation means you must be well prepared so that interview can go with a decent flow. For example, if you are going to interview a person. You must do some research about him so that you can have a brief history of his work field. Secondly, a cheat sheet can be created which includes all the questions that you are going to ask a person because one can not remember so many things at once.

Along with all the tricks like keeping it short and straight forward, Jory Mackay also discussed the importance of nonverbal communication in an interview. By just observing the body language you can judge that weather or not the interview is going your way. Jory Mackay also discussed how you pose depicts your self-confidence, motivation, enthusiasm and your power. For example, hiding your hand in pockets or behind the back can represent that you have less self-confidence and is not willing to work. Overlooking these kinds of signals can somehow ruin all your work, that is an interview.

It is well said that, “Death is not opposite of life, but a part of it…”

From a very young age I didn’t knew what exactly death is. That is why even today I am still confused that, is death an end to just a body, or is it an end to the existence of a being. It was somehow cleared that day when my grandmother died. I saw everybody crying on her funeral, except my grandfather and my dad. Because they both devoted their life to give her every happiness in the world, as a loving husband and a sincere son. That day I understood that crying after death is useless unless you have given love and respect to that person when he was alive.

The profile written by Brian Cable is a great combination of ideas, thoughts, values and mainly how different people see a mortuary. Starting from the title, it is a self-explanatory title that well defines the topic. Also, the passage is a well written profile as the writer made a great use of poetic devices. Such as “It looked a bit like a church- tall, with gothic arches” where a metaphor is used to compare mortuary to a church. And use of personification in sentence “Come in,” said the sign. “We’re always open.” Made it more interesting.

It is so well written that a clear picture of the building is automatically built in the brain of the reader. From “windows stamped out of red brick” through “lush green lawns and meticulously groomed gardens” to “the stone steps to the entrance”, it is very well written. In my opinion it is a great passage and no more enhancements can be made.

Wikipedia is an immense source of information. However, it works as an open foundation where anyone from anywhere can contribute at any time. The information added can be genuine. But in most of the cases it is vandalism, off beam or an incomplete piece of information. These types of errors may be fixed by some genuine volunteers. Whereas, many of these errors can remain unobserved for a very long time. Maybe for years. This is the main reason that Wikipedia is an untrustworthy source of information.

It is also the main reason that teachers bar their students from using Wikipedia as their primary source. Because when children use internet, they are unaware about the authenticity of the information. However, Wikipedia provides its primary and secondary sources to its users the bottom of every article. Another reason could be that the information provided on Wikipedia is distinctive. No matter the reader is a thirteen-year-old child or a doctorate.

I totally agree with the teachers who prohibit their students from using Wikipedia as their primary source because it is not a scholarly resource. One way or another, it is a very wonderful source of information in some cases. But due to its feature of being edited by anyone in the world. The accuracy of the information becomes questioned. Secondly, in this era, most of the children are addicted to their handheld devices. Though they have become very lazy. So, when they use Wikipedia, they don’t try to understand because all of the work is already done for them. Whereas, when they listen in classroom, they understand better.

Writing is not a doddle. Neither for a beginner, nor for a highly skilled writer. As Anne Lamott says,” Even after I’d been doing this for years, panic would set in”. I felt that panic too. I typed in the blog, deleted some sentences, retyped it and deleted again like a million times. I even felt very miserable for that.

When Anne Lamott says, “The first draft is a child’s drafts” means the writer spits out all the ideas, thoughts, quotes, he’s been listening all his life. He piles up all of them in a terrible way just like an eight year old child making a sand castle on a San Francisco beach. Thinking that no one is going to read his draft. But when it comes to an experienced writer, you have to see the draft through the reader’s eyes. Writing draft at that point becomes really difficult. All your quotes and ideas are wiped out because you can’t choose which one to choose. The writer has to go through other’s work to get some really startling ideas.

According to Anne Lamott, writing is not natural, and never was. Neither for a beginner nor for an experienced writer. After making some progress in the writing field, the writer might feel ashamed while reading his first draft. But he must not feel ashamed because it brings up several new ideas. Furthermore, the writer must know that problems are meant to be solved. They should never become a huddle in your way to success.
