In this article, Jory Mackay discusses the significance of nonverbal communication in an interview along with the verbal communication. Basically, nonverbal communication includes gesture, eye contact, tone of voice and body language. A survey conducted by a group of students in India stated that approximately 60 percent of our daily communication depends upon nonverbal communication. For instance, deaf people communicate through the American Sign Language that completely depends upon hand gestures and facial expressions.
In this passage Jory Mackay discussed the two P’s that are persistence and preparation. Persistence means that the final goal of the interview must be clear, and all the question must be linked to that goal. Preparation means you must be well prepared so that interview can go with a decent flow. For example, if you are going to interview a person. You must do some research about him so that you can have a brief history of his work field. Secondly, a cheat sheet can be created which includes all the questions that you are going to ask a person because one can not remember so many things at once.
Along with all the tricks like keeping it short and straight forward, Jory Mackay also discussed the importance of nonverbal communication in an interview. By just observing the body language you can judge that weather or not the interview is going your way. Jory Mackay also discussed how you pose depicts your self-confidence, motivation, enthusiasm and your power. For example, hiding your hand in pockets or behind the back can represent that you have less self-confidence and is not willing to work. Overlooking these kinds of signals can somehow ruin all your work, that is an interview.
