As you prepare to teach your course, here are a few questions to ask yourself:

  • Are you familiar with your course outline?
  • Do you have a learning plan that allows students to achieve course-level learning outcomes?
  • Are the course materials and the course website accessible to all students?

Remember that there are many opportunities to get more support. You can follow up this course with: 

  1. HR Onboarding
  2. Kick Off & Get it Together session dates at the start of each semester
  3. Book a meeting with a Teaching and Learning Specialist
  4. Many resources are available on the LDST website and
  5. Watch for a weekly teaching tip in the LDSTeam email to faculty in your Fleming inbox
  6. Connect on The Virtual Teacher’s Lounge the MS Teams for faculty conversations
  7. Check out The Teaching Hub blog posts
  8. Come to the weekly drop-in sessions for faculty to discuss teaching tips, ask questions, and connect with other colleagues

Watch for our teaching and learning tips and opportunities to go deeper into evidence-based teaching and learning strategies you can practice to increase your effectiveness in the classroom.

In the meantime,

  1. If you want to know more about teaching strategies right away, try the series Small Changes in Teaching from the Chronicle of Higher Education. 
  2. If you want to know more about Engaging Teaching right away, read Chapter 7 of The New Art & Science of Teaching by Robert J. Marzano. There are copies available on reserve in the library.
  3. If you want to know more about your fellow teachers right away, try the Open Faculty Patchbook an award-winning Open Education Resource started by the LDS Team at Fleming College.
  4. If you want to know more about learning right away, try Universal Design for Learning in Higher Education or the Science of Learning.

Try This Activity

Make sure to submit a Payroll Digital Timesheet form to receive compensation for this training. It is available through the myCampus employee portal. The timesheet must be approved by your immediate supervisor and submitted to Payroll. Compensation for completing mandatory/regulatory compliance training is the budgetary responsibility of the individual department. If you have any questions, please contact payroll@flemingcollege.ca. More information can be found on the HR website under payroll.
