A major conflict that occurs within the lego discourse community is an interesting one that revolves around the old older lego fans and the new ones. This conflict is the difference and variety of parts as well as different building styles that go along with them. One of the most apparent and dividing parts of this conflict is the one of bionicles and the standard lego bricks and the technic building system. Bionicle is a sub section of the lego technic building line that involves building action figures that have articulate poseable building pieces that are almost exclusively within this line the only exceptions being lego hero factory and the star wars figures that came out after bionicles end in 2010 and in-between the short lived reboot between 2015 and 2017. The conflict arises out of the fact that the pieces have little to no use outside of the figure building category and have limited compatibility with the standard lego bricks. On the one hand bionicles unique pieces allow for very unique creations and can inspire fans to build in unique was that they would not normally be able to build in but some fans tend not to see this aspect. People within the community have chastised fans of the long running bionicle line which started in 2000 and ran till 2010, belittling them saying that they weren’t building with real legos. This has always been a really apparent part of the community which lego itself has tried to address by integrating more technic pieces into the line allowing for more compatibility but this has never truly satisfied the older fans who seem to be very stuck in there ways. Ironically as much dislike this aspect of lego seems to attract it has clearly been very popular with fans because this particular line managed to save lego from almost complete bankruptcy in the early 2000s and has helped to make lego stronger than ever. Due to this aspect of lego being so popular the newer fans have made it very apparent and it has become more and more intergraded into sets such as 2018s lego ninjago line which used a hybrid style of bionicle esc pieces intergraded with the classic. Very recently as the younger crowd has become old enough to make a large impact with in the adult community it is a much more accepted way of building that still has a very strong and alive following to this day myself being one of them. This whole conflict is one that is primarily one of people having a difficult time adjusting to change and having to recognize that new styles are not always bad.
