Don’t Want To Be a Big FAILURE? You May Want To Consider This

When I was a young lad I wanted to create the most badass album of all time. Okay, it was two years ago and it was a demo of some songs I was writing at the time. None the less, it was (and still is today) my escape, my therapeutic release, my passion project, my opus magnus. However, the equipment I had at the time, an old busted up guitar and a way outdated tape recorder, just wasn’t meeting my expectations when I envisioned my great work. If I wanted to avoid failure with my entrance project into the music world, it was time to make some “small” purchases. First, to improve the quality of my sound I bought a nicer guitar with higher end strings. Next, I caved in and bought a new Macbook Pro paired with a small interface. As you can imagine this “small” purchase drastically altered the quality of the recordings in a positive way. I was well on my way to avoiding the various failures and challenges that arise when attempting to do your own home recorded album when suddenly I listened back to my vocals and found myself utterly dissatisfied with the sound of them. So, I wiped out my credit card and bought a $500 studio microphone and invested in some online vocal training. Ah yes, much better. Now, this is a project that I’m still active with today and I’m sure there’ll be many more types of costs (hopefully no internal or external failure costs!) that will arise as I move further into the project. Without any further ado, this brings me to the topic of this blog post. Have you ever heard of Cost of Quality? Any idea what it is? Hmm, very interesting. Don’t feel bad, most people get this wrong as it is a fairly ambiguous term that could be interpreted in a zillion different ways. I, myself, was completely unaware of this term, or technique I should say, until part way through my journey of the Project Management program at Fleming College. I’ll give you a hint: I gave a few examples of some costs relating to cost of quality in my short story above. Are you curious yet? If so, click the link below. It will lead you to a fantastic video I’ve prepared where I dive into the details regarding what Cost of quality is, why it is used, and how it is used. Enjoy!
