I think what Anne Lamont meant when she was talking about “shitty first drafts” is the first draft you type is just meant for you to spew all of your ideas out weather they are great ones or shitty, it doesn’t matter because it is only your first draft. The first draft also allows you to write without shame or embarrassment of what\u00a0 you are writing because you know no one is going to see it other than the yourself. She also touched on the fact that writing is not as easy as just sitting down at your desk rolling your sleeves up and writing fully formed passages as fast as a court reporter, her words not mine.\u00a0 Anne went off on a little bit of a tangent but what i think she was trying to say is how shitty first drafts are meant as a warm up to get the writer thinking each time they sit down to write their piece, because if you try to write your best piece of work every time you sit down to write you’ll just be sitting there stumped with nothing to show for in writing.\u00a0 When your stumped when writing, the idea of a shitty first draft is to allow for unfiltered writing and ideas, which can be the result of shitty pieces of writing and some great pieces of writing.\u00a0 After the shitty first draft is complete the shitty pieces are then burned in the fire of shame and the great ones move on to the next level which is the second draft.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
