Living most of my life in and around Indigenous people on smaller First Nation communities has humbled myself quite a bit from my not a care in the world youthful years. I have learned much working in the field of health promotion especially from youth. My employment was stunted few years back as I contracted a tumor the size of my fist in my colon. Unaware that I was even sick I underwent life threatening emergency surgery. Luckily, I was able to pull through without having a refuse bag on my side the rest of my life. Than the battle of extensive chemo therapy started and I overcame that beast. What a life eye opener for myself and family. To date, I am cancer free nothing on CT scan indicates any abnormal growths and no markers in my blood tests. One that contracts cancer and overcomes continues to appreciate the little tiny things in this life.

Myself, my wife, and kid picked up, packed up and moved to southern Ontario. I am attending Fleming College my daughter attends Loyalist College playing woman’s basketball. Since she was a kid I always promised I would follow when she attends post-secondary education. My wife working in the social work field for 20+ years is just having a long break, which I find very calming. When sitting in seminar or lecture sessions I feel creator has put me right where I am supposed to be. Among my young adult peers I don’t feel so isolated from what I was used to working with youth in my First Nation community, I get some comfort from that. I also recognize that I stick out like a sore thumb at Fleming College.

crumby first draft The last few years has been quite a life experience, many trials and tribulations for myself as an Indigenous middle aged man.
