Back home in Nova Scotia where I’m from, I go hiking, four wheeling, fishing and am always outdoors. I believe this is a discourse community of being an outdoor enthusiast. There are many specific groups within being an outdoor enthusiast that narrow it down to one activity such as hiking. They have guided group hikes and can give you all the tips you need to be the best hiker you can be. This also goes for being an overall outdoor enthusiast.
There are many people in this discourse community and it is always growing to be more people by the minute. You’re always learning about different places and things to do through other outdoor enthusiasts, social platforms, clubs, stores and the outdoors itself. Like myself and most outdoor enthusiasts, you’re always wanting to go on a new adventure, so its never a dull moment.
In our community you could even say we have our own ‘lingo’ on what we do and how we do it. Especially when it comes to the people who are most passionate about four wheeling. If I was to say to you “lets go for a Myra rip?” you probably wouldn’t know what I’m talking about. My friends and people in my community where I’m from, know exactly what I’m saying which is; “lets go four wheeling on the trails at the end of Myra Rd”. We can speak fluently to each other without missing a beat.
I am from a small town outside of Halifax in Nova Scotia, so the outdoor enthusiast’s community may vary province to province and especially country to country. In Canada we are lucky to have our beautiful nature with lots of hiking trails, ATV trails, lakes, waterfalls, rivers, mountains, beaches, and wildlife. I will never run out of hikes to do or atv trails to discover.
